September HVAC Maintenance Tips

September 16, 2019

September marks the end of summer and the beginning of fall. This is a great time of year to prepare your system for the colder months to come and to ensure that the wear and tear of summer has not presented any unexpected issues. Check out a few of our September HVAC maintenance tips!

Check the Air Filter

De Soto Electrical Products is a locally owned and operated company that has been serving De Soto and the surrounding areas for more than 50 years. Perhaps one of the most common homeowner mistakes we encounter is forgetting to swap out the air filter. This is a great time to check it. Replace it if it’s visibly dirty or if it has been three months or more since the last time you changed it.

Examine Both Indoor and Outdoor Equipment

Perform a visual inspection of your heating and cooling equipment both inside and outside the home. Look for anything out of the ordinary that may demand an immediate service call. If you have an outside unit, such as a heat pump, clear the area around it.

Check the Thermostat

This is an excellent time of year to air out the home by inviting some fresh air. You may also want to consider your thermostat since you can often get away with upping it a couple of degrees or so.

Schedule a Furnace or Heat Pump Tune-Up

Finally, schedule a tune-up with an area service provider that you can rely on. A tune-up will include a comprehensive inspection and any minor maintenance that the system may require, such as having the refrigerant topped off. This is also an opportunity for your HVAC maintenance technician to notice the signs of more serious troubles before they actually manifest.
